Rural Tranquility
A thud on the conservatory window and a cry from Chris that a tree creeper w as dead on the ground. I went to pick it up but it leaped onto my leg and stayed there, stunned, for nearly ten minutes while Chris got the camera. Eventually it started to move up the “tree trunk” towards the top – fortunately I don’t think they eat nuts! (sorry).
Is the hedgehog fighting the twiggy plant pot holder, thinking it is another rival? Or is it trying to get inside it – and ends up wearing it?
Who’s the bully? More hissing from the big one as the little one scurries off.
And what about that last clip, you never know what goes on in your own garden until you use an automatic camera trap!
How many hedgehogs are there in Lanefoot garden? And why do they bully each other?
We never knew until Martin and Emma and Stanley and Robert gave us a wildlife camera for Christmas – thanks. I didn’t realise that it took such good pictures in the semi dark so I had waited, but wow!
All seems quiet and peaceful until after 2mins something is happening, but is it friendly, who is the dominant one, what happens when big mamma turns up, and was the mouse hiding behind them all that time?
Let me know what nature pics videos and writing you have so we can add it to the Dovenby
Our regular visitors Mr & Mrs Bullfinch came to see us. They are not nervous and seem to stake their claim on the seeds and even when the robins challenge them, they don’t rise to the challenge. I read that robins will attack anything with a red patch, so maybe the beautiful red of the bullfinch is a challenge. We call them bullies for short and the robins are robby so there’s something to play with.
Nice otter, shame about the fish. The only time in 26 years in the village that we have seen an otter. However, it seems to have cleared the fish so will probably move on to another stream now. Hopefully it left some fish for the kingfisher.
Henrieta Hen of Lanefoot Cottage has been homeless for at least a year in our village but the neighbours haven’t lost one so she is lonely. She eats the birdseed when the pheasant isn’t claiming his share. I don’t suppose they can get too friendly and ….?!
She seems to have needed a dust bath but is normally quite shy and hides somewhere in the undergrowth. The pheasant is much more friendly.
The birds are in good voice, the blackbird is on the bricks, the pheasant has had a good feed from the sunflower seeds on my shoe (it would peck my hand too much). I have put a text description below the video. Fish were jumping in the beck but not in the video.
Enjoy with love
